This tiny wombat almost didn’t get a chance at life…

Vets for Compassion rescuers Vicki and Brendan were driving home from a wedding when the call came in. Brendan was in a suit, and Vicki in a floor-length dress and heels.

That didn’t stop them from answering the call. A kind soul contacted Vets for Compassion about a wombat who had been hit and killed by a car.

Vicki and Brendan did a pouch check, and there he was: a tiny little boy, frightened and alone. He needed help.

No hesitation, not changing into something more practical. Just two dedicated rescuers doing what they do best: showing up for animals in need, wherever and whenever they need them.

Thanks to the Vets for Compassion team, and volunteer rescuers Vicki and Brendan, this little guy has a second chance at life. He is now safe in care and doing well.

Here’s how you can help wombats like him:

  • Slow down in wildlife areas, especially at dawn and dusk
  • Slow down if you see rescuers working
  • Sign the petition to create more wildlife corridors
Even though all our rescuers are volunteers, it costs a lot of money to rescue and treat sick and injured animals. Will you help keep our teams on call 24/7, ready to help every animal who needs us?
