If you’ve found a lost dog, your local vet can help by scanning for a microchip.
Vets for Compassion is the only veterinary organisation in Victoria dedicated to helping wildlife, companion animals, and farm animals alike. Nearly one-third of the animals we help are companion animals — and our volunteer vets and rescuers are there for them every step of the way.
Our companion animal services include:
- Humane capture of stray cats and dogs across Melbourne
- Emergency animal rescue and veterinary treatment during floods, bushfires, and disease outbreaks
- Shelter veterinary care, providing cats and dogs awaiting adoption with the treatment they need, in partnership with Forever Friends Animal Rescue
- De-sexing programs to support responsible pet population management

How You Can Help Dogs
- Adopt, don’t shop — healthy dogs die in pounds because of over-breeding. You can save a life by adopting instead of purchasing from a breeder
- De-sex your dog — to avoid contributing to over-breeding
- If you find a lost dog, take them to your local vet — it’s the fastest way to make sure they are re-united with their people
