Vets for Compassion provides urgent, on-the-ground veterinary care to sick and injured animals of all species.

Who we help

Wildlife

Our team is on call 24/7 for wildlife emergencies, including bushfires and road strike. Every day we rescue kangaroos, koalas, possums, echidnas and their joeys, as well as native birds and reptiles.

Farm animals

Our team regularly helps farm animals who have been injured or who are at risk of injury or death during natural disasters. We also help find care for farm animals who need safe, long-term homes.

Companion animals

Our team helps to rescue and de-sex stray companion animals, including cats and dogs. We also help rescue companion animals in times of emergency, like floods, and help find care for companion animals who need a home.

We aim to deliver expert veterinary care to every animal who needs us.

Founded in 2016 by Dr Elaine Ong AM, Vets for Compassion is a collective of vets, vet nurses and animal rescuers who volunteer their time to help animals in need across Victoria. Our work is varied and expansive, and includes:

  • Treating critically injured animals
  • Rescuing stranded or stray animals
  • De-sexing stray cats and dogs
  • Responding to natural disasters

Support us

Vets for Compassion relies on the generous contributions from the community via donations, corporate partnerships and gifts in wills.

Volunteer to help animals

Vets for Compassion is run entirely by dedicated volunteers who commit their time and skills to improving the lives of animals in Victoria.

Our team of diligent vets and vet nurses perform rescues and relocation of wildlife and domestic animals, brave natural disaster zones, and perform life-saving surgeries and rehabilitation.

We also welcome non-vet volunteers to help with administration, marketing and fundraising.
