Oliver Butchart

Rescuer & Darter

I am a nature enthusiast, wildlife rescuer, and passionate advocate for animal rights, based in Melbourne, originally from Johannesburg. Growing up in South Africa ignited my deep love for animals and commitment to nature conservation. After volunteering as a police reservist for over nine years, I moved to Melbourne in 2019, where I discovered my true calling in wildlife rescue.

Being part of the wildlife rescue community is incredibly rewarding. It connects me with like-minded, knowledgeable individuals who share my dedication to protecting animals and preserving our ecosystems. My commitment to animal welfare extends beyond rescue work. I am a vegan because I believe in reducing harm to animals in every way possible. To me, conservation and ethical living go hand in hand, and I strive to promote a more compassionate world through both my actions and advocacy.

Outside of wildlife rescue, I’m passionate about staying active and keeping fit, whether it’s running, training, or just getting outdoors. I also love cooking and consider myself a bit of a foodie. And like any true Melburnian, I appreciate a great cup of coffee.

I am committed to making a positive impact on the environment and our wildlife while inspiring others to do the same. Each day presents new challenges, and I embrace them wholeheartedly, working toward a future where animals and humans coexist in harmony.
