Michael Heath
Veterinarian
Michael began his veterinary career in mixed practice in Bendigo. His mentor, Dr. Tony Mellor, encouraged him to think laterally to solve animal health problems. This approach helped not only with cats and dogs but also with ostriches, emus, snakes, cattle, horses, and pigs.
Working as a small animal vet in the UK for four years taught Michael just how much can be achieved in a day.
Since 2010, Michael has traveled at least once a year to India to assist in Animal Birth Control and Anti-Rabies programs. He has a deep appreciation for the country, people, and animals and remains committed to supporting animal welfare efforts there.
Michael was the co-owner of East Bentleigh Veterinary Clinic from 2003 to 2021 and the co-owner of Black Rock Animal Hospital from 2003 to 2013.
His aim has been to develop a modern clinic in Melbourne while also using its resources, equipment, contacts, and clients to assist NGOs in India in strengthening their capacity to improve animal welfare and veterinary standards.
Clinically, in Melbourne, Michael focuses his work on small animal surgery.
He finds working with the passionate and skilled staff of NGOs like Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS), HART (Nepal), Dharamsala Animal Rescue (DAR), and Manali Strays motivating and intends to continue this balance between East and West.
