Meet the team
Mel Attard
Rescuer, Darter
Mel is passionate about animal welfare and wildlife protection. She believes in kindness, compassion, and being of service.
Mel comes from a family of animal lovers. They used to pick up all the injured or orphaned animals they came across.
Mel started rescuing with organisations at the age of 25, when she picked up a roadkill brushtail possum with a live baby in her pouch. After a long search for help late that night, she learnt that the work done for wildlife is mostly voluntary and self-funded. Mel then started learning and volunteering with numerous organisations.
Twenty-five years later, Mel is a highly experienced rescuer, tranquilise darter and wildlife shelter operator. Mel also has a passion for surfing, bushwalking, and gardening.
Mel also owns and operates Humane Animal Solutions offering professional humane animal rescue, darting and nest box install services.
