Leanne Cummins
Vet Nurse Leanne Cummins is a registered nurse and midwife, holding a Bachelor of Nursing, a Graduate Diploma of Public Health, a Graduate Certificate in Midwifery, and a PhD. She currently teaches nursing and conducts research at the University of Wollongong (UOW), combining clinical expertise with a passion for education and healthcare innovation. Leanne has been a dedicated wildlife carer since 2017, raising and rehabilitating many injured and orphaned wombats, eastern greys and wallabies, and developing extensive hands-on experience in wildlife husbandry, medical care, and rehabilitation. Since 2020, she has been actively involved at Possumwood Wildlife Hospital, assisting the team with surgeries and different treatments for ongoing care. Building on this experience, Leanne is also a veterinary nurse, bringing her unique blend of human and animal healthcare skills to her work. Through her involvement with Vets for Compassion, she is committed to promoting compassionate veterinary care and advancing wildlife welfare, ensuring that Australia’s native animals receive the best possible support.
