Animal Response Team Training

At Vets For Compassion, responding to all species in need – from native wildlife and companion animals to large farm animals – is at the heart of what we do.

This past weekend, our Large Animal Response Team participated in an intensive training course in Moyhu, near Wangaratta, to sharpen their skills and ensure the highest level of safety and care during rescues.

Why training matters

When a large animal is injured, distressed, or in danger, swift and professional action is essential to prevent further suffering and ensure public safety. Rescues involving large animals are inherently risky and require specialist knowledge, advanced skills, and the right equipment.

Whilst most of our Vets and rescuers have experience and knowledge in large animal behaviour and handling, we strive to upskill and rehearse our procedures in working as a team.

Our team received hands-on training on:

  • Understanding animal behaviour and flight zones.
  • Safely approaching, humane and gentle handling, and containing large animals.
  • Real-life rescue scenarios for optimal learning.

A heartfelt thank you!

We extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Adam Williams, VFC Board Member and experienced large animal vet, and Dr. Joanne Williams, co-owners of Wangaratta Veterinary Clinic, for their expert guidance, warm hospitality, and invaluable training sessions.

This training ensures that, no matter the situation, our team is equipped to respond with compassion and professionalism when large animals are in need. Public safety and animal welfare always come first.

Thank you for supporting us on this journey to save lives, one rescue at a time.
