Thank you to everyone who has offered kind words and support to our team who attended the South Yarra cattle truck incident on July 23rd, 2025. This was one of the most heartbreaking responses our team has ever attended.
Around 10pm we received a call regarding a cattle truck that hit a bridge in Melbourne’s East. A team of three darters and seven rescuers arrived to find a sight that was beyond horrific.
We would like to recognise the kindness and generosity of the public in relation to the efforts of our volunteers who worked through the night.
Thank you to those who have offered counselling, healing and recharging services and opportunities to our team. We are incredibly grateful for your kind offers.
And thank you to everyone who has visited the crash site, attending the vigil for the lives lost, and who have created the lovely memorial.
In total, the team was able to save 41 of the 74 on board. With heavy hearts 33 of those had to be euthanised.

This incident highlighted the importance of every donation, costing thousands of dollars in drugs, darts and other equipment. We were hoping to raise $2,500 to help cover a small part of the costs but thanks to the generosity of the public we managed to raise an incredible $7,983. Thank you all!
