Wallaby and joey rescue

It’s not every day you spot a wallaby in a shopping centre car park – but thanks to the quick thinking of some local legends, this little family’s story has a beautiful ending.

A frightened wallaby was hopping through a busy car park when a kind local gently guided her into a nearby yard for safety. That’s when our rescuer, Jason, stepped in!

He safely caught her using sedation while being advised by our vet. That’s when a surprise passenger was found – a tiny joey tucked inside her pouch!

We got mum and bub to our Mel, then onto the incredible team at Unusual Pet Vets in Karingal for a full health check.

The result? She was cleared for release! Mel found the perfect, safe spot and returned them to the wild. We’ve been checking in — and yep, they’re both doing brilliantly

A huge shout out to everyone who participated in this rescue – from the first person who stopped to help to our dedicated volunteers and the veterinary team who gave this wallaby family their happy ending.

This is what compassion looks like. This is why we do what we do.
