Meet some of our passionate heroes whose journey started with a love for animals and a heart full of compassion. Our next hero is Oscar!

Growing up in Asia, witnessing the destruction of forests for concrete jungles ignited a passion for environmental protection. This led to studying Zoology in Canada, working with orangutans in France, and eventually volunteering at wildlife shelters in Melbourne. Now, a proud member of Vets For Compassion and Wildlife Victoria.

One unforgettable moment was rescuing a juvenile black swan in Hawthorn East. It crash-landed in a backyard, got chased by dogs, and found safety for the night in the rescuer’s home! The swan was successfully released into the Yarra River the next morning.
The toughest part? Sometimes, it’s having to euthanise severely injured animals. It’s heartbreaking but often the kindest option to end their suffering. Every rescue, even the hard ones, is about what’s best for the animal. ![]()
Balancing work at a zoo, city rescues, and life can be challenging. But the joy of rescuing an injured or trapped animal makes it all worth it! Every successful rescue fuels the passion to continue.


Recently, two juvenile brushtail possums were rescued, fed, and nurtured back to health. Watching them grow from vulnerable babies to strong adults ready for the wild is heartwarming.

This work is tough, both mentally and physically. You need to balance emotional investment and the animal’s best interest. Rescuers often face burnout, so managing the number of rescues and seeking support is crucial.
We need more rescuers and transporters. Late-night rescues are common due to a need for need for volunteers. Financial support is also crucial, as weekly drug and fuel costs are high. Every bit helps sustain this vital work!
Greater financial support from the government could enable full-time rescuers. Awareness programs in schools on basic rescue techniques would also be beneficial. Small efforts from the community can make a huge difference!
Exciting rescue missions are on the horizon, including relocating significant mobs of kangaroos. These complex operations need approval and funding but are crucial for animal safety. Stay tuned for updates!
